“On the path of Love, we are neither masters nor the owners of our lives. We are only a brush in the hand of Master Painter.”
I love this verse by Maulana Rumi because it beautifully clarifies the ultimate source of all creativity. Master Painter uses us just like a brush to create whatever he desires. The source of all inspiration resides in the unknown and unknowable.
Over the centuries, so many scientists and researchers have tried to understand fully the source of creativity and ideas. Particularly, In the past few years, there has been a lot of research on the subject, I read an article about the effort to build creative AI, and dispel the mystery of creativity. Irrespective of that it still remains a mystery; the depth of its mechanics is still mysterious.
Being in the creative discipline for four decades, I am convinced of the mysterious source of creative ideas and their timing. It’s a feeling like being a radio set, which only receives the broadcast being created somewhere else. Yes, you can do things to make sure that your radio set has good reception quality and a tuner, or even the audio quality can be made crystal clear. What you can’t control is what comes through. When it starts to flow – it feels like magic that unfolds right in front of your eyes.
“Whatever picture you paint
or poem you write
He is beyond that.
Whatever height you can reach,
He is higher than your ‘highest’.”
Get rid of your talking and your books—
it is far better to let Him be your book.
“In your light, I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”
